For contractors, developers and owners building in Qatar

Pre-construction anti-termite treatment in Qatar

Anti-termite treatment protects a building before termites get in. It is most effective at the construction stage, when the soil beneath and around the foundations can still be reached. We treat new residential and commercial buildings across Qatar, and can also protect buildings that are already complete.

Why treat during construction

Termites feed on wood and other cellulose material and can hollow out timber from the inside, leaving only a thin outer layer, so damage often goes unnoticed until it is serious. Door frames, roof timbers and fitted joinery are expensive to repair.

The soil under a building is the main route in. Treating it while it is still open gives protection beneath the whole footprint, which is difficult to achieve once floors are laid. That is why the treatment has to be planned with the building programme, not after handover.

When treatment happens on a new build

  1. 1

    Planning

Contact us when the building programme is known. Send the plot location, building type and expected foundation dates so treatment visits can be booked around the contractor's work.

  2. 2

    Foundation stage

After excavation and before concrete is poured, the soil beneath and around the foundations is treated. Once a slab is cast, the soil under it can no longer be reached, so this visit cannot be moved later.

  3. 3

    Before each area is covered

Areas that will be backfilled, paved or covered later in the build are treated before they are closed up. The number of visits depends on the building and the programme, and is agreed at survey.

  4. 4

    Handover and after

Once the building is complete, timber, service entry points and the perimeter can still be protected, and the building should be checked periodically for signs of termites.

Working with your contractor

Treatment has to fit between excavation and concreting, so the earlier we hear from you the easier it is to schedule. When you get in touch, please include:

  • Plot location and building type (villa, apartment block, commercial or industrial)
  • Current construction stage and the expected foundation and slab dates
  • Contractor or site contact who will coordinate access
  • Any anti-termite requirements in your project specification or from your consultant

Requirements differ between projects. If your specification or consultant sets requirements for anti-termite treatment, send them with your enquiry and we will confirm what we can provide before work is booked.

Post-construction treatment for completed buildings

If a building was not treated during construction, it can still be protected. Treatment is applied around the perimeter, at service entry points and to vulnerable timber, with bait stations where appropriate. This suits villas, apartment buildings and commercial premises.

Treatment methods

The right method depends on the construction stage, the site and, for existing buildings, any termite activity already present. Our technicians survey the site and recommend the most suitable approach.

Soil treatment
A termiticide is applied to the soil beneath and around the building to create a continuous treated zone that termites cannot cross. On a new build this is done during construction; on a completed building it is applied around the perimeter and at entry points.
Termite baits
Bait stations are placed where termites are likely to forage. Termites carry the slow-acting bait back to the colony, which allows the whole colony to be eliminated rather than only the workers you see.
Wood treatment
A treatment is applied directly to timber such as door frames, roof structures and fitted joinery to protect it against attack.

Questions about pre-construction termite treatment

When should anti-termite treatment be done on a new build?

At foundation stage, after excavation and before concrete is poured, so the soil beneath and around the building can be treated. Contact us early in the building programme so visits can be timed with the contractor.

What do you need from us to quote for a new building?

The plot location, building type, current construction stage, expected foundation and slab dates, and any anti-termite requirements in your project specification. A site survey may be needed for larger projects.

Send a project enquiry

Is anti-termite treatment required for my building?

Requirements depend on the project. Check your project specification or ask your consultant, then send us any requirements with your enquiry and we will confirm what we can provide.

Can a building that is already finished be protected?

Yes. Completed buildings can be treated around the perimeter, at service entry points and on vulnerable timber, with bait stations where appropriate.

What is the difference between this and termite control?

Anti-termite treatment protects a building before termites get in, ideally during construction. Termite control deals with termites that are already active in a building.

Termite control for active infestations

Does anti-termite treatment replace inspections?

No. Treatment reduces the risk of termites getting in, but buildings should still be checked for signs such as mud tubes and damaged timber, especially where timber or stored cardboard is in contact with walls or floors.
